What Is Self Harm?
Self-harm is when a person deliberately cuts, hurts or poisons themself or abuses substances as a coping mechnanism for strong emotions and unwanted thoughts or to regain a sense of control over trigger situations. Other self harming can include overdose, self-poisoning, over or under eating or asphyxiation. Psychiatric and psychological factors, life events and family adversity can affect the severity of the disorder for both children and adults.
